When I started at Koinly, I started with a tiny total audience size of ~2,000 followers across 3 (dead) channels.

Our rough starting stats where:

By the time I’d left, we had an audience size of ~75k across 7 channels.

<aside> 💡 Context: Koinly is a crypto tax calculator that helps you track the value of your crypto transactions in your local currency’s value and then produces a yearly tax report to give to your account.

Whilst this information isn’t critical to the information below, it is helpful to know before diving in.

Here’s what I did…

1️⃣ Know thy audience.

Growing your audience is impossible if you don't understand who they are. Luckily, I had an edge, having been in the crypto space for a year or two.

But without being able to understand your audience fully, it’s going to be hard to connect with them and for them to buy into what you’re saying and, more importantly, for your audience to share your content.

Still, as a crypto tax calculator, I dived deep to learn about people's challenges when calculating their taxes.

2️⃣ Consistency is key.

Our social media accounts were inactive, so we revamped our strategy by posting twice a day. We added an extra tweet for announcements and daily news updates to keep followers engaged.

The result? A steady stream of content that kept our audience hooked.

3️⃣ We embraced edutainment.

While we kept our audience informed about crypto taxes, we also posted memes, satirical content and made jokes.

You don’t have to be super serious all the time & memes are a great way to engage your audience, reach new people and grow your account.

4️⃣ We borrowed authority.

We were small fries with a puny following. Our content wasn't reaching anyone.
